Therapist Referral Network

Amy Marlow-MaCoy, LPC (Jenkintown, PA and Online in PA)

Navigating life with the distorted perspective that comes from growing up with a narcissistic parent is challenging, to say the least. Feeling like you have to be perfect (and never will be), feeling unable to trust your own instincts, and worrying about passing on the unhealthy patterns you recognize in your childhood to your own family are exhausting. The constant stress and second-guessing can wear you down and make you feel like you're going crazy.

While it’s tempting to want to jump straight to changing or even ending a relationship with a narcissistic parent, taking the time to work through the five steps of Dr. McBride’s recovery model is worth the time. Until you accept the realities of having a narcissistic parent, grieve the childhood you wish you’d had, heal the wounds you carry with you, and decide what kind of relationships you want to have, you won’t be able to move forward the way you so wish to.

I am pleased to be listed on the therapist registry so that I can offer help and support to clients who want to explore how their lives have been impacted by a narcissistic parent. I am passionate about supporting clients in making choices that work for them. Deviating from the path you've always traveled as an adult child of a narcissist can be intimidating and overwhelming, and I'm glad to be here to help with that.

As someone who specializes in helping adult children of narcissists in my therapy practice, I want to help and support you in working through these steps to change your life. Your life can be so much better! I truly love helping clients make choices that work for them, and consider it an honor to walk beside you in this journey. I work with adult women and men as well as teen girls ages 13 and up. With warmth, empathy, humor, and the occasional nerdy analogy or reference, we will work together to help you heal and move forward in your life.

In addition to being certified in the Will I Ever Be Good Enough 5-step model, I am pursuing advanced training in Internal Family Systems theory (IFS). IFS supports clients in becoming more aware of all the different parts that make up who you are, and becoming more self-compassionate and more self-confident. I am not in-network with any insurance panels, however I am happy to provide documentation of services rendered if you would like to request reimbursement for out-of-network benefits. I also offer video sessions for Pennsylvania residents if distance is prohibitive. I look forward to working together!
