Dr. McBride’s book “Will I Ever Be Good Enough” is a classic: beautifully written and so accessible to those of us who have grown up with narcissistic parents. I have recommended her book to many clients, and I was thankful that she developed a five-step treatment program, along with training for therapists, so we can help our clients heal from the wounds of growing up in a narcissistic family. Narcissism is pernicious and often goes unrecognized by children of narcissistic parents, but Dr. McBride gently and clearly shows how to effectively understand and recover from a narcissistic upbringing and how to move on and flourish in life. I have used her approach successfully with many clients.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Davis, CA and have practiced psychotherapy with children, adolescents, adults, and families since 2006. My understanding of clients is based primarily on developmental, attachment, and neurobiological approaches and includes an appreciation of the deep impact trauma, including that resulting from being raised by a narcissistic parent, can have on a person’s development. In addition to being certified in Dr. Karyl McBride’s WIEBGE five-step recovery program, I am EMDRIA certified in EMDR Therapy (a trauma treatment psychotherapy), have obtained the Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies awarded by Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute, and I am in the process of completing intensive training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (a body psychotherapy approach to treating trauma). Areas of treatment specialty include adult children of narcissistic parents, trauma, attachment issues, abuse and neglect, relationship issues, anxiety and depression, and infertility.
I am not on any insurance panels, but I can provide superbills for clients to submit to their insurance companies for reimbursement.
