Therapist Referral Network

Lauren Heffler, M.Ed., LPC, CRC (Online only in PA)

I am so excited to be trained in Dr. McBride's Five Step Recovery program and listed on this registry! I rely heavily on Dr. McBride's process while working with my clients who have experienced narcissistic abuse because it is clear, concise, and highly effective. Many people I work with have reported feeling "hopeful" after reading "Will I Ever Be Good Enough?". It can come as a huge relief to know that your feelings and experiences are valid and there is hope for happiness and authenticity in your future. It is an honor to get to walk this journey with you!

Oftentimes clients have reached out to me initially feeling "stuck" in the first phase: Acceptance & Grief. They know deep down that continuing to go back to an empty well when it's dried up is a futile attempt, but the wishing and hoping part of them wants for things to be different. I gently support my clients with processing their grief and trauma and have found that EMDR or Brainspotting is especially helpful in this phase. It is critical for clients to process their trauma and pain to absolve themselves of the guilt and shame they've been carrying due to a lifetime of experiencing gaslighting and manipulation. Once freed of the overwhelming and untrue thoughts, you're able to focus on creating the life you have always deserved.

I offer a warm, nurturing, and collaborative approach to treatment, meeting clients where they are at in their recovery process. I help clients: process their grief in an unconditionally supportive and non-judgmental environment, learn to tease out their own strengths and values from projections of the narcissistic, gain skills to nurture their own inner child, set healthy and realistic boundaries with their identified narcissist(s), and recognize narcissistic traits to avoid repeating these behaviors with friends, partners, and children. Prior to joining a private practice, I worked in a Residential Treatment Facility where I provided therapy to children and families who experienced various types of trauma, abuse, and neglect. It was there that I realized the profound impact of relational and generational trauma, along with the importance of breaking the chain of abuse.

I am out of network with insurance but will provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. I meet with clients both in person and virtually. I also specialize in treating: anxiety, OCD, and depression. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of PA, trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through the Beck Institute, EMDR, Brainspotting Level 1, and am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor through the CRCC.
