Learning about Dr. McBride’s 5-step recovery model has been monumental in my therapeutic work with clients. While I have done this type of work with folks for several years, Dr. McBride was able to put the process of healing from parental narcissism into concrete and practical steps. As a therapist who specializes in complex trauma, I’ve found this training to be essential.
I say this because, well, relational trauma can be tricky! It can feel taboo to talk about our parents in a negative light, even disloyal. The idea that our parents did the best they could with the capacity they have and it still missed the mark for us is an incredibly raw and difficult thing to come to terms with. And even if we do come to terms with it, then what? Parental narcissism, and the resulting relational trauma, is a topic that requires skill, gentleness and compassion from a therapist who is a good fit for your needs. For this reason, I am always looking for new trainings to increase my skills in these areas and was extremely excited to come across this certification process which addresses the needs of clients with these types of traumas in a beautiful and thorough way to allow for real, lasting change.
My practice, Encompassed Resilience Therapy, is based in Pennsylvania and serves clients located in PA, NJ, DE, and FL through telehealth. I work with pre-teens through adults and am specialized in trauma, especially complex and relational traumas. In addition to having my certification in Dr. McBride’s 5-step recovery model, I am also a certified EMDR therapist, am in the certification process for Internal Family Systems Therapy, and have experience with other trauma-focused trainings (i.e. NMT and AEDP), which you can learn more about on my website. I’m passionate about helping my clients identify and break their family patterns, acknowledge their unmet needs, establish their own sense of self, and set boundaries that prioritize their well-being and emotional safety.
